MY SOMATIC JOURNEY
Three years ago I was serendipitously gifted a Mustang mare, Ruby. Ruby arrived with an aversion to yielding to pressure. Some may have labeled her as too dangerous but aggression never displayed in her eyes. Just fear. Fear and an abused nervous system.
Ruby has challenged me to release pressure while standing in my power, to hone my non verbal communication skills, and own that my energy, my mood, my body language impacts those around me.
Ruby taught me the subtleties of deescalation and how to advocate for the safety of her nervous system. I now feel the various layers of Ruby’s energetic field and how to ask her permission to enter them. Spaciousness, co-regulation, holding her no as sacred, and releasing self imposed expectations have allowed us to saddle, trailer load, and tie without a trauma response. My experience with Ruby has invited me to advocate for my own nervous system and understand my own subtle shifts towards escalation. She has taught me how to keep my two feet grounded firmly in the fertile soil of possibility while choosing to presently meet each moment instead of dissociating.
Animals are my alchemists, transforming stuck emotions into gold, and elevating my awareness and consciousness.
Like many of us, I have experienced Hashimoto, adrenal fatigue, childhood trauma, and emotional & physical abuse. I have been invited into the depths of fight/flight/freeze, dissociation, and numbing many times.
The animals, plants, breath, rest, ritual, and authentic connection continuously bring me back to life.
The lifelong cycle of death and rebirth, shadow and light, is now supported by somatic & energetic tools to keep me present & expressing instead of numb & suppressing.
By aligning myself with my menstrual cycle, the seasons, astrology, and the five elements I honor my body, energy levels, and hormonal fluctuations. Breath is my life force. Rest is my alley. Nature is my muse.
Animals are my alchemists, transforming stuck emotions into gold, and elevating my awareness and consciousness.
Animals teach me how to pace my healing and build capacity for self regulation. They show me the many subtle signals to escalation and teach me that backing off, offering space, and saying no is sacred. My sisterhood reminds me to play, dance, sing, create, and also honor the dark cycles that birth new light. Spirit holds me in unconditional universal support and ecological kinship. Plants ground me and reinvigorate my circulation, digestion and heart space, breathing flow and life into my cells.
